Garda Vetting Information Seminar for Community Groups
Date: Thursday 1st May 2014
Time: 7 - 8 pm
Venue: Le Cheile Family Resource Centre, Tucker Street, Castlebar, Co Mayo
Garda Vetting will soon be legally mandatory for everyone who works or volunteers with children and vulnerable adults. Mayo Volunteer Centre provides a service to community and voluntary organisations to access Garda Vetting for their staff and volunteers. In order to help community organisations get fully up to date on the new legislation, we are offering a free Information Seminar in Castlebar on Thursday 1st May at 7 pm in the Le Cheile Family Resource Centre on Tucker St.
The Volunteer Centre strongly recommends that community organisations take steps to inform themselves about the new legislation. When it comes into effect, it will be illegal to involve any volunteer or staff member to start working with children or vulnerable adults without garda vetting, even if they have been vetted elsewhere.
The seminar will cover the following:
- provide an overview of the new Garda Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012
- advise on the steps necessary to ensure compliance
- dispel some of the myths and inaccuracies about garda vetting
- provide information about the Vetting Unit's plans for "e-vetting"
