Volunteer Expo 2014
Tuesday 7th October, 10:00 - 14:00
St Mary's Hall, G.M.I.T., Castlebar
The 2014 Volunteer Expo gives you a chance to meet with over 20 local charities and community groups to find out about their work and how you can get involved.
Volunteering brings huge benefits - to the community and to the volunteer themselves too! Volunteers can learn new skills, gain experience in a new area of work, build their social or professional network, and volunteering has also been proven to have a positive affect on mental and physical well-being.
Of course, many local voluntary groups and charities are totally dependent on volunteers to help them make our communities stronger, safer and more caring. Over 20 voluntary groups will have Information Stands at the Volunteer Expo and will be showcasing the work they do, and provide information about how people can get involved.
The Expo will also feature short, 10 min presentations on different aspects of active citizenship. Pop in at the times below for an overview of each particular aspect of being involved in your community.
10.30 Opportunities for the Over 50s (including info on the Care & Repair Programme), Presentation by Age Action Ireland, brought to you in conjunction with Moy Valley Resources IRD.
11.30 The Mental Health Benefits of Volunteering, Presentation by Shauna Jackson of Grow.
12.30 Volunteering and our Intercultural Community, brought to you in conjuction with Mayo Intercultural Action
