National Volunteering Week 2022
Next week, 16th – 22nd May, is National Volunteering Week and the Mayo Volunteer Centre has some fabulous events lined up to celebrate our amazing volunteers and not-for-profit organisations. All events are free.
Monday 16th May – 15.00 – 16.00 Online.
Climate action in Mayo. This event will include a presentation from Laura Dixon, Climate Action Officer with Mayo County Council, outlining what the Council and Mayo communities are doing to help the county to address the climate and bio-diversity crisis, plus a discussion with participants.

Tuesday 17th May – 10.30 – 11.30 Online.
Breathe: maintaining a mentally healthy lifestyle. This session, run by Mayo Mental Health Association, aims to highlight the benefits of positive mental health and well-being.

Wednesday 18th May – 18.30 – 20.00 In person event
Celebrating Community Connections. This is a great opportunity for members of the public to come along and see what’s on offer in Ballina and surrounding areas. There will be lots of local sporting organisations, community groups and voluntary groups in attendance so people will get a real taste of what’s on offer in the local area. There’ll also be lots of entertainment on the night! So why not drop in for a look and a chat! Venue is the Ballina Community Sports Centre. Kids welcome! No booking required.

Mindfulness: growing healthy and positive attitudes. Mindfulness lowers stress, helps you to relate in a different way to the challenges of life and enhances your sense of well-being. Carmel Connor from Mayo Mindfulness will run a session for 1.5 hours showing us some mindfulness techniques.

The Importance of Sports & Physical Activity in Local Communities. We are joined by Cathal Brady, Sports Development Officer, with Mayo Sports Partnership who will give us an insight into the work done by MSP and the various community based programmes they run as well as looking at the importance of physical activity throughout life. We’ll also look at the role played by volunteers in Sporting Organisations.
